Vanajeevi Ramaiah’s Green Link finds a place in a first year intermediate botany textbook

A veteran Green Crusader, the late Daripalli Ramaiah, popularly known as Vanajeevi Ramaiah, continues to inspire generations through his enduring legacy of environmental protection.
His vision of a greener future and invaluable contribution to social forestry found a place in the 1st year Botany textbook for intermediate students in the current academic year.
Ramaiah’s tireless efforts to increase green cover and his pioneering contribution to planting and nurturing thousands of saplings in Khammam district have been featured in the chapter on Plant Ecology under the newly introduced Economic Botany topic.
The textbook describes him as an Indian social worker renowned for his extraordinary contribution to social forestry. He notes that he was awarded the ‘Padma Shri’ in recognition of his extensive afforestation efforts in 2017.
It may be recalled that a lesson on the life of Vanajeevi Ramaiah was introduced in Class VI social studies textbook in 2019.
A native of Reddypalli village in Khammam rural mandal, Ramaiah continued his green mission till his last breath.
He died aged 85 in April 2025, leaving behind a lasting legacy of environmental stewardship.
