Security has been tightened at all metro stations and prominent places in Delhi after a series of bomb threats were received through emails, an official said on Monday.
The emails said “Delhi banega Khalistan” and warned of blasts at Delhi’s army school, Red Fort and metro stations over the next three days. Reports claimed that the blasts would take place at the Army School at 1:11 pm, the Vidhan Sabha at 3:11 pm and the Red Fort at 9:11 am today, an official told PTI.
Following the threat, which specifically mentions metro services, the Delhi Police has stepped up security deployment at all stations of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation network.
“High alert has been sounded across the city. Additional forces have been deployed at all metro stations and vital facilities. Anti-sabotage checks and random searches are also underway,” said a police officer.
Bomb disposal squads and dog commandos have been deployed at sensitive locations, including the Red Fort, the Delhi Secretariat and the Assembly complex, he said.
Another senior officer said coordination meetings were held with Delhi Metro officials and other agencies to review security preparedness.
“We have asked our counterparts in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to strengthen security even at metro stations under their jurisdiction. Surveillance has been strengthened and CCTV monitoring has been strengthened,” he said.
