Tamil Nadu CM Vijay launches Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay launched a special drive at the Adi Dravidar Government Welfare School at Palavakkam on the outskirts of Chennai on Sunday as part of the national campaign against pulse palsy.

Mr. Vijay started the campaign by administering oral polio vaccine to children and distributing gifts.

An official report said the state government has made elaborate arrangements to administer polio drops to 52.91 lakh children under the age of five at 43,051 centers across the state, including government hospitals, primary health centres, anganwadi centers and schools.

Temporary transit boxes have been set up at bus terminals, railway stations, airports, tolls and checkpoints to administer polio drops. Polio vaccination centers operated from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m

Apart from administering polio drops at the centers on June 28, the drive would continue on June 29 and June 30 at the transit booths.

The entire event will concern the children of migrant workers from other states living in Tamil Nadu.

More than two lakh health workers, anganwadi workers, teachers and volunteers have been deployed in the campaign, the report added.

Health and Family Welfare Minister KG Arunraj, Sholinganallur MLA P. Saravanan and senior officials from the Health and Family Welfare Department and the Greater Chennai Corporation were among those present.
