A few days after Jaspal Rana’s death, the shooter’s mother dies of cardiac arrest
Less than three weeks after the untimely death of Indian shooting legend Jaspal Rana, his family suffered another tragedy when his mother Shyama Devi passed away after prolonged health complications and hospitalization.
Shyama Devi died on Sunday – the day Jaspal’s 50th birthday would have been celebrated – deepening the grief for the Rana family, who are mourning the loss of one of Indian shooting’s most influential figures.
Jaspal died on June 12 after suffering heart complications. The former striker and celebrated coach underwent an emergency heart surgery a few days ago but could not recover.
Confirming the development, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed condolences to the family in a statement.
“We have received extremely sad news of the demise of wife of Smt. Narayan Singh Rana Ji and revered mother of renowned Indian shooter and Padma Shri awardee Late Jaspal Rana Ji,” said Dhami.
“My deepest condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief. May the departed soul find peace and may the family find strength to bear this loss.”
SURVIVED BY HUSBAND NARAYAN RANA
Shyam Devi’s death comes as another devastating blow to Jaspal’s father, Narayan Singh Rana, who has been mourning the loss of his son.
Jaspal is survived by his wife Reena Rana, daughter Devanshi, son Yuvraj and siblings Sushma Singh and Subhash Rana.
Widely regarded as one of India’s greatest pistol shooters, Jaspal enjoyed a distinguished competitive career before successfully transitioning into coaching. He played a key role in shaping the next generation of Indian shooters and was serving as India’s High Performance Pistol Coach at the time of his death.
One of the defining moments of his racing career came at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, where he won three gold medals and a silver, equaling the then world record.
Before his death, Jaspal had returned with the Indian contingent from the ISSF World Cup in Munich and was hospitalized in New Delhi after developing complications that later required emergency heart surgery.
