The ‘Drugs Pai Dandayatra’ cycle rally organized to check drugs and smuggling and consumption of ganja hit several villages of NTR Police Commissionerate.
Five female police officers pedaled to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and ganja. The program is jointly organized by the police, the Elite Drug Enforcement Group (EAGLE) and other department officials.
“The 37-day cycle rally reached Vatsavai and neighboring villages on Sunday, the 27th,” said police commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu.
The rally was attended by representatives of the public, officials of the Ministry of Taxes, Prohibitions and Taxes, students of various educational institutions, women and youth.
“The response to Pai Dandayatra drugs has been overwhelming. Many youths and women are volunteering to participate in the rally,” said Mr. Rajasekhar Babu.
Police in collaboration with EAGLE and NGOs are organizing public meetings, debates and discussions to educate the public about the ill effects of drug abuse, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) KGV Saritha, who is monitoring the 500 km rally.
The five policewomen explained to the villagers the ill effects and legal consequences of drug use and supply, Ms. Saritha said.
