The Andhra Pradesh government will give priority to the development of Guntur Mirchi Yard (Agricultural Market Committee), one of the most important market committees in Andhra Pradesh, Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu said on Friday.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed market committee in Guntur, the minister said the government was committed to comprehensive development of the shipyard. He noted that chilli farmers faced severe hardships under the previous regime and ensured measures to curb investment difficulties and prevent losses.

Mr. Atchannaidu said that in order to compete in international markets, farmers must reduce the use of pesticides and focus on producing quality yields.

Referring to the current location of the shipyard in the heart of the city, he said the government would take a favorable decision if a detailed report on the relocation was submitted.

Kurra Appa Rao took charge of Guntur Mirchi Yard in the presence of elected representatives and coalition leaders. Former minister Prathipati Pulla Rao administered the pledge to the chairman, vice-chairman and directors.

MLA Burla Ramanjaneyaulu, Bhashyam Praveen, Nakka Anand Babu, Prathipati Pulla Rao, Mayor Kovelamudi Ravindra and Pilli Manikyala Rao attended the function. The new committee promised transparent transactions, improved infrastructure and fair prices for farmers, traders and workers.
