Sawai Man Singh Stadium (Special Arrangement) JAIPUR: In a major development to resolve the long-standing standoff over security and liability at the venue, Rajasthan Royals officials led by chairman Ranjit Barthakur met Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. The discussions resulted in a mutual consensus that paved the way for the franchise to host a portion of its IPL 2026 home matches at the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Stadium in Jaipur.

A source close to the development confirmed, “The Royals chairman met the CM. A decision was taken to hold four matches in Jaipur and three in Guwahati.”In the last few years, the Royals have hosted two matches in Guwahati and five in Jaipur. This new arrangement represents a slight adjustment, with one additional match being moved to the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. The deal follows Royals’ earlier insistence on a waiver of compensation from the state government, prompted by a detailed 700-page independent audit by Tata Projects, which pointed to serious deficiencies in the stadium’s infrastructure and safety standards. The Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) had earlier downplayed many of these concerns, deeming them trivial and solvable through routine maintenance. The chief minister’s intervention appears to have helped break the deadlock, with the government showing its resolve to address Royals’ concerns while ensuring the IPL remains in the state. The RSSC has now started work to repair and upgrade the stadium to meet the required standards for hosting matches.
