Security forces maintain vigil during the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti procession in Bagalkot, Karnataka on February 19, 2026.
No one was injured in stone pelting in Bagalkot in north Karnataka on the night of February 19, Bagalkot police clarified on February 20.
Two stones that were pelted on the night of February 19 hit Superintendent of Police Siddarth Goel and another policeman, police said.
“However, we suffered minor scratches and no major injuries. We both continued to work till the end of the Shivaji Jayanti procession,” Goel told reporters.
He dismissed reports that some communal forces had conspired to throw stones at the procession or that some persons were moving with sticks to incite violence.
When asked, he said the incident was not related to the late night Ramzan prayers organized at a nearby mosque.
“I think the stones were thrown by one or two miscreants. We have enough clues, including CCTV footage. Our police officers are investigating the matter. We are sure to trace and arrest the accused within hours,” he said.
