Galgotias University’s faux pas at the recent AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi garnered considerable attention online. Netizens have not shied away from mocking the institution after the “robodog” scandal sparked an episode of national embarrassment. Social networks were flooded with hilarious memes and jokes
The Noida-based university was embroiled in controversy after it claimed that the robotic dog shown was an in-house innovation called Orion, developed in-house by its Center of Excellence. However, social media quickly recognized it as a commercially available Chinese Unitree model.
The user mocked the incident and shared a meme with the caption “Movie Title: The Life of Galgotias. Produced and Directed by: Galgotia University.”
Another comment read: “Robo dog finally gave up. I really don’t get it. What is a remote controlled robo dog doing at an AI summit? How exactly does a pre-programmed robot represent high-end artificial intelligence? If a device simply moves, reacts or vibrates on its own, does it automatically become “AI”?”
Many users trolled various departments of the university with a funny collection of memes.
Once the news spread across social media and caught the evil eye of the merciless internet, it sparked online scrutiny. Galgotias University Registrar Nitin Kumar Gaur, defending, said that RoboDog was never presented as a university invention because of opposition to Professor Neh Singh’s statement.
To correct the error, Neha Singh issued a clarification: “There was a dispute because things may not have been clearly expressed.”
She added: “I take responsibility that maybe I didn’t get it right because it was done with a lot of energy and enthusiasm and very quickly, so maybe I didn’t come off as eloquent as I usually do. Also maybe the intent wasn’t properly understood.”
The Ministry of Electronics and IT reportedly asked the university to vacate its stall at the Bharat Mandapam after criticism grew online. After considerable damage, the university attempted to rectify the situation and issued a clarification. She apologized for the “confusion” and blamed the faux pas on her “ill-informed” representative.
“We at Galgotias University want to deeply apologize for the confusion caused at the recent Al Summit. One of our representatives manning the pavilion was misinformed. She was not aware of the technical origin of the product and in her excitement to be on camera gave factually incorrect information even though she was not authorized to speak to the press,” the statement read.
