Reacting to the “shirtless” protest organized by IYC members at the AI Impact Summit on Friday, Indian Youth Congress National President Uday Bhanu Chib said, “This anger is not coming from our Youth Congress members alone. It is from every young person who is unemployed today and every one of them knows that our Prime Minister is compromised.”
Earlier in the day, members of the Indian Youth Congress staged a “shirtless” protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the India Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit – which is being held in Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam. Protesters at the summit accused the prime minister of compromising national interests.
A senior police officer said around 10 people were detained when they protested at the AI summit, news channel PTI reported.
“They were immediately removed and taken to Tilak Marg police station. No one will be allowed to violate law and order,” the officer said.
Protesters reportedly took off their shirts as a sign of anguish towards the prime minister, claiming he had been “compromised”, reports said, citing party leaders.
According to PTI, a group of people marched inside Hall No. 5, wearing or holding white T-shirts depicting Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump along with slogans such as “India US Trade Deal”, “Epstein Files” and “PM is compromised” – leading to an uproar.
“…Rahul Gandhi’s soldiers”
In an interview with ANI, Uday Bhanu Chib claimed that his Youth Congress colleagues are ‘Rahul Gandhi’s soldiers’ and that they will “not be intimidated”
“Our Youth Congress colleagues are Rahul Gandhi’s soldiers. They will not be intimidated. When there was no FIR against Rahul Gandhi, the ED case dragged on for so many years. He was summoned for questioning so many times. BJP can go any distance but we are the soldiers of the Constitution, the soldiers of Rahul We Gandhi country will raise the voice of Rahul We Gandhi country back.” IYC president told ANI.
BJP reacts to the protest
After the protest, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla lashed out at the Congress – claiming that the grand old party had “proved once again that AI is anti-India for them” and that the protest was “on Rahul Gandhi’s order”.
“Congress has again proved that for them AI is not Ambitious India, Artificial Intelligence, Aspirational India. For them AI is anti-India. This is not INC, this is ANC, anti-national congress. The AI Summit is being praised all over the world. From President Macron to UN Secretary General Pich Samhoach to the highest are praising it,” Poonawalla told ANI.
