After calling Abhishek Sharma a slogger, Mohammad Amir has now issued a warning to the Indian opener amid his poor form during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. Ahead of the India vs Pakistan clash, Amir said that Abhishek was looking at the ball and doubled down on the comment, he says he doesn’t know how to fight back.
Abhishek has not enjoyed the best of times in the T20 World Cup 2026 so far, as he was dismissed without scoring a single run. The Indian opener has five ducks in seven innings and has scored 182 runs in eight matches this year at an average of 26 with a strike rate of 224.69.
In Geo News, Amir compared Abhishek’s situation to that of Saim Ayub when he burst onto the scene and how his offside play caused his downfall. Similarly, the former pacer said that Abhishek is trying to stop every delivery and if he doesn’t work on it, the Indian opener will be exposed in international cricket.
“Saim (Ayub) had the same problem when he started in the PSL a couple of years ago. He was new and gave shots that could not be seen. No one knew his weakness because most of his shots were on the leg side. Now when you jump to the third or fourth line of stumps, it is difficult to make a decision. Even in his last two matches he was dismissed when he plays offside, he cannot test his weakness. Until he makes progress. and pushes you out of your comfort zone.” Amir said.
“It’s the same for Abhishek. He wants every ball in the slot to hit him. But at the highest level, or in ODIs, har ball lapete mein nahi le sakte (you can’t hit every ball in pressure cricket). Salman Agha and Aryan Dutt got him out in a similar way. International cricket exposes you.”
ABHISHEK’S UNWANTED RECORDINGS
With his dismissal against the Netherlands, Abhishek created a record as the Indian batsman with the most ducks in T20 World Cup history. Abhishek is now joint second for most ducks in 2026. India take on South Africa in their first Super 8 game on Sunday, February 22.
