With the uncontrolled installation of flex boards and banners in public places spoiling the beauty and aesthetics of the city, the district administration has intervened and ordered that all unauthorized flex boards and banners be removed immediately.

In his directive on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy said that associations, organizations, members of the public and others intending to install flexible boards and banners in public places must obtain prior mandatory permission from the concerned local authorities. They must also ensure that no damage is caused to public property and that the materials are removed after the specified period. The responsibility for removal lies with the individuals or organizations concerned, he said.

However, it has been observed that unauthorized installation of flexible boards and banners in public spaces in Mysuru city and district is adversely affecting the heritage and aesthetic appeal of the district.

The deputy commissioner warned of legal action if his directive was not immediately complied with. Under the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfiguration) Act under Section 3, defacement of public places through unauthorized advertisements is punishable with imprisonment of up to six months or a fine of up to ₹1,000 or both.

Likewise, Sections 133 and 136 of the Karnataka Municipal Act clearly state the provisions regarding permission for advertisements and removal of unauthorized advertisements, the press release said.

Therefore, within the limits of Mysuru City and District, permissions granted for flexible boards and banners for any event must be strictly limited to the duration of the event. After the event, the concerned parties must remove the flex boards and banners, the DC said.
