Excise arrested a young film artist in the wee hours of Wednesday with 52 liters of liquor allegedly in his possession. The arrested person is Shefeeq Ummer, a native of Thiroorangadi in Malappuram.
He was arrested during a check in the city. Excise seized 15 liters of Indian foreign liquor and 58 bottles (37.7 liters) of beer from the accused.
According to Excise, Ummer illegally sold alcohol after midnight by finding customers through a network of youths and taxi drivers he befriended. Excise also impounded a car he allegedly used to run the liquor business.
He was known for his role in Action Hero Biju. Excise sources said an investigation is underway to find out how the accused managed to procure large quantities of liquor.
