Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior MLA and former minister T. Harish Rao on Thursday (February 19) slammed the Congress top leadership over the planned review of the Telangana government’s two-year performance at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi, calling it a “direct insult to the pride of Telangana and the very idea of self-governance”.
Taking strong objection to the meeting to be chaired by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and attended by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, his Cabinet colleagues, TPCC President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud and other senior party leaders from the state, he wrote an open letter on Wednesday.
Addressing the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and identified as senior leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other AICC functionaries, the deputy floor leader of the BRS Legislature Party said that Telangana was created after a long struggle for self-rule and self-respect so that it would not function as a “remote state or as a political base” responsible for regular approval from Delhi.
Mr. Rao demanded that the Congress leadership first examine its own failure to implement the party’s six assurances made during the 2023 election campaign that 90% of the assurances remain unfulfilled even after more than two years.
Alleging that the Congress government failed to keep key promises made to the farming community, including ₹2,000 crop loan waiver, improved Rythu Bharosa, crop bonus and crop insurance, he said partial implementation and exclusions have left farmers disillusioned. He also pointed to unfulfilled commitments.
On social justice, Mr. Harish Rao said that the promised strengthening of reservations for SCs and STs and associated benefits in procurement had not materialised. He further claimed that several social security programs started by the BRS government have been weakened or terminated.
He also leveled serious allegations of corruption against the state government and warned that Telangana would not tolerate outside control.
