KSPL plans ₹200 crore expansion of Offshore Supply Vessel Complex

February 19, 2026

Kakinada Seaports Limited (KSPL) has proposed an expansion of the Offshore Supply Vessel Complex (OSVC) at Kakinada Deep Sea Port at an estimated cost of ₹200 crore, with the aim of additionally adding four million tonnes per annum of cargo handling capacity.

Currently, the deep sea port handles more than 17 MTPA annually, which mainly consists of exports of bauxite, fertilizers, alumina, iron ore and coal among other cargoes. The deep sea port serves the hinterland of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

The OSVC extension proposal includes the extension of the existing finger pier by 360 meters and the construction of a new finger pier of 275 meters on the eastern side of the harbor.

Defense needs:

In a summary submitted to the Andhra Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (APPCB), KSPL said, “The OSVC will support the accommodation of defense vessels of the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard. It will also strengthen offshore logistics capacity for oil and gas exploration.”

On February 6, the APPCB held an environmental public hearing on the proposed project, which is yet to receive environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary is 2.5 km from the deep sea port and Hope Island is almost four kilometers away.

The expansion is likely to be completed within two years from the date of receipt of required permits, including environmental clearance from the MEFCC. Built by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh in 1997 under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) method, the deep-sea port is operated by KSPL.
