The state committees of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), All India Students’ Federation (AISF), Progressive Democratic Students’ Union (PDSU), Progressive Democratic Students’ Organization (PDSO) and All India Students’ Association (AISA) on Wednesday (February 18) condemned the alleged attack on SFI and AISF officials on Tuesday evening for “opposing activities in the name of Swaya Rashredvak Santriya” religion in universities.
In a statement, union officials demanded strict action against those responsible for the attack. They alleged that the RSS has been running activities in Andhra University for some time to turn students into religious fanatics.
Two days ago, SFÚ management informed the Vice-Chancellor about the development, but there was no response. The student leaders alleged that they suspected that these activities were taking place under the supervision of the VC.
Narrating the sequence of events on the university campus on Tuesday that led to the scuffle between the two groups, they said “strangers” were carrying out RSS programs on the campus. When the SFI and AISF leadership demanded that the activities be stopped, Sangh activists assaulted them, the students alleged.
“What business does the RSS have in the university campus? Why is the university administration allowing this? We strongly condemn RSS members, including non-students, who entered the campus with ABVP flags and under the guise of ABVP tried to disrupt unity among students by attacking student leaders,” the student leaders demanded.
They sought immediate intervention of the state government and strict action against those who entered the university campus and assaulted the students. They said Education Minister Nara Lokesh had categorically stated that there should be no politics in educational institutions but did not talk about religious programs and hatred spread among students in the name of religion.
They requested the Minister to intervene and ban RSS from educational institutions.
