India, Pakistan and Zimbabwe qualify for T20 World Cup 2028 along with six other teams

February 18, 2026

India, Pakistan and Zimbabwe are among the nine teams that have qualified for the 2028 ICC T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

All the teams that advanced to the Super Eights of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 have secured automatic qualification for the next edition. Along with India, Pakistan and Zimbabwe, the other qualified teams are Sri Lanka, West Indies, England, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

The final Super 8s lineup has been confirmed after Pakistan beat Namibia by 102 runs in their Group A match on February 17 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Australia failed to qualify for the Super Eights after losing to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in the group stage. However, they secured a place at the 2028 tournament as co-organizers.

DID BANGLADESH QUALIFY?

Apart from the nine teams that have already qualified for the T20 World Cup 2028, three more sides will get direct entry based on the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings on March 9 – a day after the final of the ongoing tournament on March 8. Those places will be awarded to the next three highest ranked teams that have not yet qualified.

Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Ireland are currently in contention for these places. With no international fixtures scheduled before the cut-off date, their ranking is unlikely to change, putting them in a strong position to qualify directly.

Bangladesh was initially set to participate in the current World Cup but, citing security concerns, withdrew from the tournament over playing their matches in India. They were subsequently replaced by Scotland.

Afghanistan and Ireland, meanwhile, endured disappointing campaigns in 2026 after failing to reach the Super Eights. However, they can still avoid the qualification route for 2028 if their position remains.

The remaining eight spots in the 20-team tournament will be filled through regional qualifiers, with each region allocated spots based on its overall competitive strength.
