Drawing a parallel between the police and the medical profession, Commissioner of Police SD Sharanappa said both sectors serve the society in vital ways. “Doctors fight disease and save individual lives, while the police fight social evils like crime to protect society as a whole. Both professions are committed to ensuring a safe and healthy society,” he said.
He was speaking after launching a health camp organized at United Hospital in Kalaburagi to mark the 14th anniversary on February 18.
Lauding the hospital for making advanced healthcare accessible and affordable, Mr. Sharanappa noted that until a few years ago, patients from Kalaburagi had to travel to cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Solapur for specialized treatment, especially for injuries and accidents.
“Today, quality critical care and advanced surgical facilities are available in the city. Institutions like United Hospital have greatly reduced the need for patients to seek treatment elsewhere,” he said. Noting that the hospital has performed nearly 40,000 surgeries in 14 years, he said the achievement reflects both public trust and the institution’s commitment to saving lives.
Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu highlighted the collaboration of the hospital with the police department in organizing road safety awareness and first aid events. He said the hospital has consistently extended medical assistance to police officers and the public throughout the year.
Chairman and Managing Director Vikram Siddareddy said veteran leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who inaugurated the hospital 14 years ago, highlighted the urgent need for advanced accident and trauma care facilities in Kalaburagi to avoid preventable deaths.
“Mr. Kharge was concerned about the lack of modern medical facilities, leading to increased mortality in accident victims. He urged us to build an institution capable of providing state-of-the-art medical services at affordable rates so that people do not have to travel to Solapur, Hyderabad or Bengaluru. I can confidently say that we have achieved this goal within a few years of its establishment. Over the years, the hospital has saved tens of thousands of Dr. Sdareddy’s precious lives.”
During the day-long camp, thousands of people underwent free consultation and diagnostic tests, including CT scan, EKG, 2D Echo, X-ray, ultrasound, blood test and BMI. Medicines prescribed during the camp were also distributed free of charge. Senior specialists from various departments were present.
