IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said on Tuesday that the Telangana government wants to transform Hyderabad into a global center for innovation-based life sciences growth, a “laboratory of the future”.
Addressing the BioAsia inaugurated here on Tuesday, the minister mentioned this and highlighted measures initiated by the state government to boost the growth of the life sciences industry, including the Telangana Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy (2026-2030), which was unveiled last month. The state wants to attract $25 billion in investment and create five million new jobs by 2030.
The policy has been formulated to make the state among the top three Life Sciences clusters globally by the end of this decade. Telangana is poised to evolve from a manufacturing base to a global hub for innovation, research and advanced drug discovery.
He said the state is strengthening its research, innovation and cutting-edge manufacturing ecosystem through structured interventions. Efforts are underway to build a future-ready workforce through institutions such as Telangana School of Life Sciences and Young India Skills University, with specialized training in emerging domains including mRNA technology, gene editing and AI-driven drug discovery.
Urging global firms and investors to partner with Telangana, Mr. Sridhar Babu said there are opportunities in AI-based drug discovery, bio-manufacturing automation, data-driven precision medicine, computational biology and Bio-Manufacturing 4.0. “Telangana is ready to work with the world’s industry leaders to shape the next phase of Life Sciences innovation,” he said.
The state has also introduced a special policy to develop Hyderabad as a global hub for medical tourism, he said.
Interacting with the media, the minister said that the state government is expanding Genome Valley. The fourth phase of the expansion is spread over about 100 acres.
On setting up pharmaceutical clusters, he said there are plans to set up such facilities, each in an area of at least 2,000 acres, at around 3-4 locations. Land acquisitions for the same are in progress. To queries on the proposed Green Pharma City, he said work has begun on the basic development of road infrastructure for the project for which 17 anchor investors have committed to invest ₹20,000 crore in their facilities.
