Vacant positions of professors in teaching hospitals, occupied medical faculties

Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Satya Kumar Yadav on Tuesday approved the promotion of 118 associate professors working in teaching hospitals and state medical colleges to fill vacant posts of professors.

According to the department’s press release, a total of 804 professorships at clinical, non-clinical and super-specialist workplaces were approved. Of these, 259 places are vacant — 122 in clinical, 100 in superspecialty and 37 in non-clinical.

Of the 122 vacancies in 17 clinical departments that had a total of 455 approved professorships, 81 were filled through promotions approved on Tuesday. In 8 non-clinical departments, out of 194 vacant professorships, 37 were vacant and 35 of them were filled. Of the 155 approved professorships, 100 were vacant in the super-specialized departments. Two of them were filled.

Expressing concern over the number of vacancies in 13 super-special departments, the minister directed officials to explore suitable ways to fill up these vacancies in view of the increasing demand for super-special services.
