India AI Impact Summit theft: One identified for stealing NeoSapien AI wearables | Today’s news

February 17, 2026

A day after the founder of a Bengali startup claimed that his wearable AI devices were stolen from the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the Delhi Police has identified one person involved in the theft. The theft allegedly took place after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the summit, a senior police official said, according to PTI.

NeoSapien co-founder and CEO Dhananjay Yadav claimed on Monday, February 16, that some of his devices were stolen from his booth after he left them there allegedly on the instructions of security personnel. The incident reportedly happened during a security shutdown due to the Prime Minister’s visit.

Dhananjay Yadav said the theft was “difficult and painful”.

Manish Kumar Agrawal, Special Commissioner of Police (Intelligence Division) informed that the police is investigating the case.

The Special Commissioner of Police said: “There were times when the gentleman left things unattended even though a locker was available. The exhibitor was expected to put things in the locker. But he still left it unattended for whatever reasons, but we have proof, the local police have proof of who did it and we are working on the case.”

He also informed that a criminal complaint was registered against the person who stole the wearable devices. “We have registered an FIR. We will be able to sort it out,” said Manish Agrawal.

Dhananjay Yadav said he may stay back to demonstrate the patented technology “which is India’s first wearable AI”.

“I wanted to show off,” he said, adding that another security team asked him to clear the area because it needed to be “sanitized.”

“I asked one of the volunteers to keep the equipment, but when the gates opened and he came to our booth, he found that our equipment had been torn down and taken away, which was a bit disheartening. We will learn from it. This is the first event of its kind (in India). So we will learn from it and improve on it,” said Dhananjay Yadav.

Speaking on day two of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, NeoSapien said he was overwhelmed by the sheer number of people who showed up.

“I am grateful to them (Delhi Police). I think they would be able to figure out why it happened, how it happened. I have complete faith in them. I had a great experience with them,” he added.
