The Mahasivaratri Brahmotsavams at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri concluded on Tuesday with traditional rituals performed in a spiritually charged atmosphere. As part of the final rites, a ‘Poornahuti’ ritual was performed in the old Yagashala amid Vedic chanting and devotion.
Earlier in the day, special rituals started at 8 am ‘Mandapa Puja’ and ‘Moola Mantra Homam’ at Yagashala followed by ‘Harati’ and ‘Mantrapushpam’. The Poornahuti ceremony, one of the most important events of the brahmotsavams, was held at 9.30 am.
Subsequently, the procession of Lord Malleswara Swamy proceeded up the steps to the banks of the Krishna River. At Durga Ghat, the heavenly ‘Vasanta Utsavam’ and the sacred ‘Avabhruta Snanam’ (Chakra Snanam) were performed in the river Krishna amidst devotional fervour. The celebrations were formally concluded with the Dhwajavarohanam (ceremonial lowering of the temple flag).
The ‘Vasanta Utsavam’ was celebrated with great enthusiasm as temple officials, board members and staff joined the devotees. Led by the head priest Durgaprasad and Sthanacharya V. Sivaprasad, the rituals filled the atmosphere with spiritual energy.
With the chanting of Lord Malleswara resonating along the banks of the Krishna River and thousands of devotees participating in the festivities, the temple authorities expressed satisfaction at the successful conclusion of this year’s Mahasivaratri celebrations.
Sthanacharya V. Sivaprasad Sarma Temple and Deputy Chief Priest Kota Prasad, members of the Vedic Committee and others participated in the Chakra Snanam rituals. The sacred ceremony was performed for the general welfare and the fruits of the ‘yajna’ were symbolically offered for the welfare of the devotees and society.
