In an interview with Asian News International, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said looming concerns and worries about the potential disruption of the labor market due to emerging artificial intelligence (AI) are a “current imperative” rather than a future issue.
Acknowledging the fears looming over the industry, Prime Minister Modi said preparation is the “best medicine” against artificial intelligence (AI) fears. He stressed that this is why central government is investing in skills and reskilling for an AI-driven future.
Narendra Modi also emphasized that the government is not looking at this as a future problem but as a present problem.
“I understand the concerns of our youth about AI-driven disruption to the job market. Preparation is the best antidote to fear. That’s why we’re investing in upskilling and reskilling our people for an AI-driven future. The government has launched one of the most ambitious skills initiatives in the world. We’re not approaching this as a future problem, but as a current intelligence agency.
Who will lead India’s future?
The Prime Minister also said that the country’s youth have the potential to lead the future of work with the support of the right skills and training. Modi also said that artificial intelligence is a “force multiplier” that will help people push the boundaries of what is considered possible.
“With the right skills and training, our youth will lead the future of work,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi told AP.
Can AI affect jobs?
Narendra Modi also said that history is proof that jobs will not disappear due to technological advancement. But he also admitted that while some jobs may be affected and redefined, others will be added due to emerging technology.
“History has shown that jobs will not disappear due to technology. Its nature is changing and new types of jobs are being created. While some jobs may be redefined, digital transformation will also add new technology jobs to the Indian economy. For centuries, there have been fears that innovation and technological revolutions will eliminate jobs. But history teaches us that whenever there is innovation, new opportunities will emerge. The same will be true in the age of AI,” PM Modi said.
Modi’s comments come against the backdrop of the AI Impact Summit 2026, which seeks to strengthen the country’s role as a key platform for shaping the global AI agenda.
According to an earlier report by ANI, this mega tech event is expected to witness 2.5 million registrations from India and across the world, where more than 600 high-potential startups will showcase their technology.
