The FIR was registered over an inappropriate social media post by the Assam BJP

High Grounds police on Thursday registered an FIR against the convener and co-convener of the social media accounts of the Assam BJP party for posting an objectionable video on the account, edited to show the Chief Minister of Assam shooting a group of men from the minority community. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later denied any knowledge of such a video and it was deleted from social media platforms.

According to a complaint filed by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee official Ranjith Kumar on February 8, a post circulated on the social media platform on February 7 was found to contain inappropriate and potentially provocative content. The complainant claimed that the content could disturb public peace and promote enmity.

According to the FIR, the accused Biswajith Khaund and Ron Bikash Gourav have been charged with offenses under Sections 192 (Intentional provocation with intent to cause disturbance) and 353(2) (criminalises the dissemination of false information, rumours, or reports intended to incite hatred, enmity or different expressions of language, malice, race or religion between groups between regions.
