Polio Pulse Immunization Camp organized in The Nilgiris

An Intensive Polio Immunization Camp was inaugurated at the Anganwadi Center at Khandal Mukkonam in Udhagamandalam in The Nilgiris on Sunday (June 28, 2026).

In a press release, the district administration said the camps were held at government and private hospitals, primary health centres, health sub-centres and anganwadi centres.

Special vaccination centers have also been set up at district and state border crossings, tribal dwellings and migrant settlements. Through 821 centres, oral polio drops will be administered to 48,140 children under the age of five, the report added.

A total of 3,284 personnel, including health and other department personnel, volunteers and members of Rotary clubs, were deployed in the campaign, with four personnel assigned to each camp.

In addition, mobile vaccination teams will vaccinate children at bus stops, railway stations, temples and other public places. Children who missed vaccinations will be visited at their homes over the next two days and field workers will administer the drops, the report said.

Appealing to parents to get their children vaccinated against polio, District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru said the oral vaccine supplied by the government is of high quality, completely safe and approved by the World Health Organization. The Collector also inspected pulse polio vaccination camps.
