BRS Deputy Legislature Party supremo T. Harish Rao claimed that the Congress and the BJP have once again proved how far they could go in power as their unholy alliance after the municipal and municipal corporation elections helped them fill positions of authority like the municipal chairman, mayor and their representatives.
Both parties have abandoned their ideologies, agenda and flags in pursuit of power at the local body level and undermined the mandate given by the people, he said in a statement on Monday. For the last 12 years, the Congress party called BRS the B-team of the BJP and the BJP called the BRS the B-team of the Congress. However, both parties exposed themselves during the elections for the positions of the chairman of the municipality, vice-chairman, mayor and deputy mayor.
The ‘fevicol bond’ of Congress and BJP was seen as their common goal was to keep BRS out of key positions in some urban local bodies (ULBs) where people voted for the other (BRS). “While they are fighting in Delhi, they are joining hands and sharing power locally. The results in Aliabad, Amangal, Metpally, Medak and Narsapur municipalities are a clear proof,” explained Mr. Harish Rao.
Mr. Harish Rao observed that the fear of growing public support for the BRS had prompted both national parties to write a conspiracy. Even in municipalities where BRS won majority of constituencies, Congress and BJP agreed to fill the posts of chairmen. In Narsapur, the Congress took the post of chairman and handed over the post of vice-chairman to the BJP.
The same pattern was seen in Sirpur-Kagaznagar and Metpally, where Congress and BJP shared the post of chairman and vice-chairman respectively. In Aliabad, the Congress secured the chairmanship with the support of three BJP councillors, in Metpally, the Congress extended support to ensure that the BJP captures power, while in Amangal, an understanding between the Congress and the BJP decided the result.
In municipalities like Kathanapally, Thorrur, Jangaon and Zaheerabad too, BRS secured majority wards but in vain due to the unholy alliance of Congress and BJP.
