The International Women’s Day celebrations of Kerala Women’s Commission will be held at Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan here on Wednesday.
Minister for Women and Child Development Veena George will inaugurate the celebrations at 11 am and present the Sthree Shakthi Commission awards.
The Sthreeshakthi prizes include a purse worth ₹10,000 and a citation.
The honorees include Thanya Nathan C, the state’s first visually impaired judge; Suni Lee, master coconut climbing trainer; E. Swaliha, winner of many medals in kayaking; Sainaba AP, powerlifter; Seena Sara Majnu, mountaineer and hiker; and Roshni GS, snake catcher and forest department employee.
The award for best Jagratha Samithis went to Kasaragod District Panchayat, Mattannur Municipality and Maranallur grama panchayat.
The award includes a cash prize of ₹50,000, a plaque and a citation.
Commission Chairman P. Satheedevi will preside over the function, which will be attended by Shashi Tharoor, MP, and VK Prasanth, MLA, Mayor VV Rajesh; and Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat president V. Priyadarshini.
Actor Usha Chandrababu’s solo play ‘Sujathayude Swapnangal, Suharayudeyum’ will be launched on the occasion.
