A. Suresh is likely to be the UDF candidate in Malampuzha

February 17, 2026

A. Suresh, a former personal assistant to the late Communist leader VS Achuthanandan, is reportedly considering contesting against the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) on the United Democratic Front (UDF) ticket in Malampuzha.

UDF leaders have opened talks with Mr. Suresh and have reportedly invited him to join the front. Speaking on the matter, Mr. Suresh said that he had shared his views with the UDF leadership and now it was his turn to take a decision.

‘Another Surprise’

Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan welcomed Mr. Suresh to the fold of the UDF. He said even the staunch comrades of Achuthanandan, the symbol of the Kerala Left movement, were parting ways with the CPI(M). Mr. Satheesan also hinted that more surprises can be expected in the coming days.

Mr. Suresh reiterated that he faced extreme humiliation within the CPI(M). Reacting to the development, CPI(M) State Secretary MV Govindan said that Mr. Suresh had been expelled from the party and that the decision would not be reconsidered. He said that Mr. Suresh would not be readmitted despite repeated appeals.

Mr. Govindan said that Mr. Suresh’s exit would not affect the CPI(M) vote share in Malampuzha. “Party votes are safe,” he said.

Commenting on film actor Prem Kumar being removed as chairman of the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy, Mr. Govindan said he was not a party member. “The party will try to reconcile with him, but if he chooses to stay away, there is nothing more we can do,” he said.
