Why are Americans boycotting Amazon, Google, Meta, X, ChatGPT? Everything you need to know about the Resist and Unsubscribe movement | Today’s news

February 17, 2026

A group of US citizens are boycotting major technology companies as they try to send a message to their country’s leaders and President Donald Trump amid continued political tensions.

The ‘Resist and Unsubscribe’ movement, as the boycott is called, was founded by New York University Stern School of Business professor Scott Galloway. A movement to resist the ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation that killed two American citizens in Minnesota last month is calling on Americans to show their muscle and get leaders to pay attention.

The official website of the Resist and Unsubscribe movement mentions specific actions to contribute to the boycott. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

What is the Resist and Unsubscribe movement?

The Resist and Unsubscribe movement is calling on American citizens to participate in a month-long economic strike targeting “the companies that control the markets and enable our president.”

According to Scott Galloway, the key to getting a response from Donald Trump is to have an impact on the market because “he is not concerned about outrage from the citizens, the courts or the media.”

“Bottom line, the shortest path to change without harming consumers is an economic strike against the companies that drive the markets and enable our president,” Galloway says on the site.

Why are Americans boycotting big tech?

Many US citizens have signed up to boycott major tech companies to protest the ICE killings. In the interview, Galloway said that as long as there are “masked secret police” on the streets, Americans “can do with fewer recurring subscription programs.”

“You have to go for the soft tissue.

The Resist and Unsubscribe website has two lists. One is “subscription-driven consumer technology companies” that have been identified as having “excessive influence on the national economy and our president.” The second list includes consumer-facing companies designated by the organization as “active ICE enablers.”

Which companies are they targeting?

Companies that have been targeted include — Amazon, Apple, Meta, Google, Microsoft, Paramount+, Uber, Netflix, OpenAI and X.

The list of companies that have been identified as active enablers of ICE are AT&T, Comcast, Charter Communications, Dell, FedEx, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Marriott International and UPS.
