Parents and relatives of Sayyed Toushika, a Class 6 student who allegedly died under suspicious circumstances at a private coaching center in Singarayakonda on February 14, staged a protest outside the Ongole Collectorate on Monday, demanding the arrest of the coaching center management in the case.

Traffic on both sides of the road was disrupted for almost three hours due to the protest. The police did not arrive at the scene for an hour. Later, the policewoman allegedly tried to drag away the deceased student’s mother, who was protesting on the spot. Local Dalit leaders opposed police brutality and supported their agitation.

Meanwhile, SFI, RSU and NSY student union leaders also came and supported them. Prakasam District Revenue Officer (DRO) China Obulesu and Ongole DSP Rayapati Srinivasa Rao met them. The DSP said that based on the post-mortem report, action would be taken against the accused. He ordered to remove Singarayakonda SI Mahendra from the case and appoint another investigating officer.

Meanwhile, members of the Parents’ Association of Andhra Pradesh (PAAP) have requested the Education Minister and the Commissioner of School Education to immediately intervene in the matter. They sought an impartial judicial inquiry or the appointment of a special committee of high-ranking officials to investigate the incident.

PAAP president S. Narahari said, “The administrators and responsible staff of the coaching center should be immediately arrested and severely punished. The Deputy DEO should conduct an inquiry and de-recognize this coaching centre.”
