State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar said strict action would be taken against those involved in attacks on police officers.
He also said that allegations leveled against Mithun Roy, a civilian police officer attached to the Armed Reserves camp who was involved in an altercation with Students Federation of India (SFI) activists at a mall in Thiruvananthapuram, would be thoroughly investigated. While two cases have been registered in connection with the incident, the officer has been arrested by the Vancouver police on a non-bailable charge.
Addressing the media here, Mr. Chandrasekhar reiterated that the police force will take strong action against these offending officers while ensuring that all allegations are investigated impartially.
Mr. Roy was said to be part of the police team that was involved in the lathi-charge of SFI activists during a New Year party in Shangumughom.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Fort’s inquiry has reportedly concluded that there was no lapse of judgment in filing the case against the officer. The report has been submitted to the District Superintendent of Police (Thiruvananthapuram City) for further action.
