Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) President Thol. Thirumavalavan said on Sunday that no alliance capable of taking on the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance has yet emerged in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters in Chidambaram, Mr. Thirumavalavan claimed that the AIADMK alliance was fractured and that he was trying to unite the party leaders. There is no qualified alliance yet to challenge the DMK-led alliance, he said.
He expressed confidence that the people of the state would extend their massive support to the DMK-led alliance in the upcoming assembly elections. “Support is growing due to the introduction of a number of programs and social programs. The state leads in the parameters of education, economy, industrial growth and health, mainly due to the role of the chief minister. This alliance has been operating since 2017 and people will support us,” he felt.
Referring to the ongoing protests by Annamalai University teachers, Mr. Thirumavalavan appealed to the Directorate of Higher Education and the Tamil Nadu Government to hold talks with them and meet their demands. The state government had earlier held discussions with the protesting staff and provided an assurance. However, these promises were not fulfilled, leading to renewed protests. According to him, the Chief Minister must ensure a permanent solution.
