India captain Suryakumar Yadav asked his team not to suffocate Pakistan’s batting during the second innings of their ICC Under-20 Men’s World Cup 2026 clash on Sunday, February 15, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. In a much-anticipated encounter, India reasserted their dominance over Pakistan, defeating them by 61 runs.
In a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Suryakumar was seen giving a clear message to his teammates, urging them to focus only on their skills rather than engaging in verbal exchanges on the field. Rather than getting drawn into mind games, the skipper encouraged his side to let their performance with bat and ball do the talking.
“Keep running between the overs. Don’t say anything to anyone – we have to play good cricket. We will win this game with good skill,” Suryakumar said in a video released by the BCCI.
Notably, the match was played against the backdrop of several controversies as Pakistan had reportedly threatened to withdraw from the match before the tournament, but later backed off following the International Cricket Council’s intervention. While India maintained their “no handshake policy” with their arch-rivals, there was no further drama on the field, none of the players engaged in verbal exchanges.
Once the match began, India ensured there was little room for drama. Ishan Kishan set the tone with a blistering 77 off 40 balls, powering India to a total of 175. Pakistan’s chase never picked up steam. India’s bowling attack continued to tighten the screws with Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel claiming two wickets each.
Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 114, handing India a comprehensive 61-run victory. The win further extended India’s dominance in the rivalry, with the head-to-head record in T20 World Cup history now standing at an emphatic 8-1. After their clinical triumph, India also secured qualification for the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
