Describing the upcoming assembly elections as a “war between Delhi and Tamil Nadu”, DMK youth wing leader and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Sunday called on members of his party’s youth wing to see themselves as “frontline fighters” in what he described as a contest between “Tamil and Hindu pressures” and between “social justice and social injustice”.
Addressing a meeting of Thanjavur district youth wing members at Sengipatti, Mr. Udhayanidhi said that the youth and women of the state stood firm in the DMK. “When people ask which side the young people and women are on, we tell them they are with us,” he said.
According to him, no other party in the country had a youth wing with comparable organizational strength, including booth committees down to the level of local units, like the DMK.
Mr. Udhayanidhi said, “Now in our state, there is a group roaming around – they only make noise, no ambition or ideology, nothing. The group doesn’t even know what it is. They think politics is fun. You, our youth wing brothers, should tell them that politics is about dedication and commitment. With a group that has no commitment or determination, nobody can achieve anything. Our youths will defeat the old wing.”
Allegedly, “fascist forces” were trying to stop the state government’s flagship Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, Mr. Udhayanidhi said: “When our leader heard that a BJP advocate had got the Supreme Court to stop the ₹1,000,000 aid, he said, ‘If they think they can stop me from giving ₹1,000,000, ensure that the grant goes to the people of Tamil Nadu.’ he said.
Mr. Udhayanidhi said that during the last two months, financial assistance of ₹ 9,000 crore has been provided to the people of the state through various measures including Pongal support, monthly assistance under Magalir Urimai Thogai and other assistance. He added that under the future government’s “Dravidian Model 2.0”, the assistance will be increased to ₹2,000.
DMK leaders including ministers S. Regupathy, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Govi Chezhiaan and Thanjavur MP S. Murasoli were present.
