BJP chief Ramchander Rao accuses BRS, Congress of neglecting tribal villages

February 16, 2026

BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao said the life and teachings of Sant Sevalal Maharaj closely reflected the ideology of the party and reiterated the BJP’s commitment to tribal welfare.

Addressing the birth anniversary celebrations of Sant Sevalal Maharaj held at the state headquarters of the party under the leadership of ST Morcha president Ravi Nayak, he criticized both the BRS government and the current Congress government in Telangana for neglecting the development of ‘thand’ (tribal settlements).

Mr. Rao alleged that though the ‘thandis’ were declared as Gram Panchayats, the required funds were not released and welfare programs were not effectively implemented. He claimed that whatever development was taking place in the tribal regions was largely due to the Central Government’s Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) funds.

He pointed out that it was the Narendra Modi government that took “historic” decisions for tribal welfare, including setting up a tribal commission and a dedicated tribal ministry. Setting up Samakka-Sarakka Tribal University in Mulugu to expand higher education in tribal areas, construction of Sevalal Maharaj Temple in Maharashtra and allocation of record funds for tribal development, he said, were other major initiatives.

Mr. Rao affirmed that the BJP will always stand by the tribal communities in their struggle for rights and development. He also appreciated Sant Sevalal Maharaj’s determination to protect nature and his efforts to incite resistance against foreign rule. State Vice President Kalyan Nayak, Organizing General Secretary Chandrashekhar Tiwari, General Secretary Vemula Ashok and others were present.
