BC organizations renew demand for 42% reservation in MPTC, ZPTC surveys

February 16, 2026

Fourteen Backward Classes (BC) social organizations have urged the Telangana government not to proceed with the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) elections until 42% reservation for BCs is implemented. These associations have warned that the government will face dire consequences if it tries to conduct polls without securing an increased quota.

The BC associations convened a meeting on Sunday at the BC Bhavan presided over by National BC Welfare Association working president Ryaga Arun Kumar.

Addressing the rally, several leaders, including Backward Communities Joint Action Committee (JAC) chairman and Rajya Sabha member R. Krishnaiah, said the BC groups would continue their agitation until the state government enforced increased reservation and held elections accordingly. He noted that the BC organizations had earlier allowed holding of Gram Panchayat and Municipal elections considering various factors.

Mr. Krishnaiah said the state has a good chance of securing a favorable verdict from the Supreme Court, arguing that GO No. 9, which deals with reservation for BCs, was framed in accordance with constitutional provisions. “Under Article 243(D)(6), the state government has the power to complete reservations,” he said, reiterating that the HC was supported by detailed analysis and valid reasons.

The leaders further demanded that the government appoint senior and experienced legal experts to argue the case in the Supreme Court to ensure that the 42% BC reservation in local body elections is enforced.
