HYDERABAD

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao said they offered unconditional support to the Communist Party of India (CPI) for the mayoral election in Kothagudem Municipal Corporation, where no party won a majority (the required number of wards), just to stop the Congress exploiting the Singareni mines.

After attending the birth anniversary celebrations of Sant Sevalal Maharaj at the party office on Sunday, he alleged that the Congress was misusing Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) to serve its political interests and it was the responsibility of the BRS to oppose all such efforts.

He said he was not aware of the pressures on the CPI to accept the alliance offered by the Congress in the KMC, though it could have easily won the mayor’s post without the Congress and with the support of other parties, including the BRS. The sole reason behind their bid (BRS) was the interests of the Singareni workers as the Congress along with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) indulged in the exploitation of SCCL.

On the results of the municipal elections, the BRS working president said that there is an uneasy situation in the 34 urban local bodies (ULBs) and the ruling Congress has already revealed its plans to gain an upper hand by “kidnapping” councilors and corporators of other parties, harassing and threatening to send police and/or “goondas” and offering bait.

He explained how the previous government prioritized the development of tribal/lambada habitations by making 3146 of them gram panchayats and increased reservation from 6% to 10% and ruled the state by drawing inspiration from the slogan ‘jal, jungle, jameen’. Party leaders Anil Jadhav, Satyavathi Rathod, B. Johnson Rathod, Ramachandru Naik and others attended.
