Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving a 20-year sentence for raping two schoolgirls in 2002, was granted a 30-day parole on 26 May 2026, which ended on 24 June 2026. It was the 16th time he was allowed to leave prison.

The Dera chief was arrested on 25 August 2017 after CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh handed down two sentences of 10 years rigorous imprisonment each in two rape cases dating back to 2002. The court said Ram Rahim Singh was charged under Section 376 (rape) of the Penal Code (Penal Code 506 IP).

June 27, 2026 is the 3228th day since Chief Dera’s conviction. During this time, he was granted a total of 16 conditional discharges and time off, totaling 435 days and 12 hours – roughly 13.5% of days spent out of prison since 25 August 2017.

While time spent on furlough — which is primarily provided to break the monotony of prison and maintain family and social ties — counts as part of the sentence, the same cannot be said for parole. Of the 435.5 days the Dera chief has spent out of jail since his conviction, 301.5 days (roughly 69%) have been on parole.

As of 2022, Ram Rahim Singh spends 91 days each year (which is 25% per year) out of jail. As of 2026, he has already spent 70 days out of prison on parole.
