As part of an appeal by the state committee of the Communist Party of India (CPI), CPI leaders along with some local people staged a protest in Tirupati on Saturday against the alleged “medical mafia” in the state. The rally took place from Old Municipal Corporation office via Tilak Road to Nalugu Kalla Mandapam.
CPI national secretary and national executive member was the chief guest of the event. Speaking to the media, Mr. Narayana criticized the government for its failure to curb the medical mafia operating in the state. He warned that raids on drug warehouses would be launched if the government did not take immediate action against agencies distributing fake and substandard drugs.
“Fake drugs are rampant in the state and are affecting the health of the common man. Pharmaceutical manufacturing companies are supplying low-quality drugs. Officials who are supposed to conduct inspections at health agencies and health shops are taking monthly bribes and ignoring this pressing issue,” he said.
The CPI leader demanded swift action within a week against the alleged medical mafia and its members. CPI state executive members A. Ramanaidu, District Secretary P. Murali and others participated in the programme.
