‘We didn’t show determination’: Nepal coach admonishes ‘distracted’ team after T20 World Cup loss to Italy | Cricket News – The Tech Word News

(Photo/Getty Images) Nepal coach Stuart Law criticized his team after their 10-wicket loss to Italy in the T20 World Cup, saying the players “didn’t show determination” and needed to block out “nonsense” on social media to focus on cricket.Nepal had earlier put pressure on two-time champions England in a high-scoring game but failed to carry that performance forward. They were beaten without a goal against tournament debutants Italy.Law said social media plays a major role in the lives of Nepali players but can become a distraction during a global event.

How will India play against Pakistan?

“Social media is a massive part of Nepal’s culture,” Law told reporters when asked what steps he had taken to ensure dressing room discussions translated into performances on the field, especially after the contrasting nature of Nepal’s first two tours.“If we’re focused on what we’re doing on social media, (or) what people are saying about us on social media, and we’re not focusing on what the team needs (or even) what the teammates are saying and (what) the game requires, you’re taking the focus away from your real job,” Law said.“I try to reach a happy medium with the players to (make) sure they focus on their cricket, number one, and the rest of the nonsense I call it.“It’s difficult because I know a lot of players rely on it to get support and sponsorship etc. But I also think the World Cup players – I’ve tried to explain it to them – that if we keep winning cricket matches, your likes will go up anyway,” he said.Law added that success on the field will automatically improve their reach online.“You don’t have to show your face all the time. If you show that cricket in Nepal is moving forward and we are winning games in cricket, your social media appeal will go through the roof,” Law said, revealing his message to the players.“I said to the boys today, take it away from cricket. Take it away from cricket. When you’re in cricket, do cricket. Maybe it’s a distraction from the robbery where we almost beat England and people from all over the cricket world (including) the greats of the game… (all), that’s nice to hear, but you still have to remember that we lost.”He said the drop in performance against Italy reflected a lack of focus and mental strength.“To go from a high like that (against England) and then go to an extreme low four days later, that doesn’t show mental toughness,” he said.“That’s not showing commitment to your team, your country, your family, etc., your teammates. We have to make sure we understand that we have to do better.”Law also confirmed that captain Rohit Paudel had stomach problems but is expected to play on Sunday.“Had a little fever after the World Cup, some stomach problems etc. But he had a fever last night. He took medicine. He should be fine tomorrow (Sunday),” Law said.
