In a bid to restore Mysuru’s bygone glory in the national cleanliness rankings, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) on Saturday organized a cyclethon to create public awareness about hygiene and citizen participation in the Swachh campaign.

The event was aimed at strengthening efforts ahead of the upcoming cleanliness assessment under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 initiative. In the annual cleanliness survey, officials emphasized the importance of community involvement in keeping the city clean and improving its chances. Mysuru used to be the ‘cleanest city’ of the country. However, its rating declined due to various reasons and the MCC has now turned its attention to improving the city’s rating by involving residents in achieving the goal.

Held under the theme ‘Bicycle Today; Build Better Tomorrow’, the cyclothon was flagged off by MCC Commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif near the Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple in front of Mysore Palace. A large number of cyclists participated to express their support for MCC’s efforts.

The rally route passed through key city landmarks including KR Circle, Highway Circle and JSS Medical College Circle before ending at the starting point.

Participants who completed the designated distance were awarded a medal in recognition of their involvement and dedication to the cause.
