KARIMNAGAR / NIZAMABAD / ADILABAD
The BJP emerged as the single largest party in Karimnagar and Nizamabad municipal corporations in a hotly contested election that saw a multi-party fight, the results of which were announced on Friday.
In Karimnagar, the BJP secured 30 of the total 66 divisions, while the ruling Congress won 14 divisions. BRS, which ruled the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (MCK) for two consecutive terms, suffered a major setback in its stronghold, managing to win just nine divisions.
The party leadership attributed the BJP’s good showing in the two city corporations to a well-laid election strategy.
State Union Home Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, party MP from Karimnagar and Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind spearheaded the barrier-free election campaign in two municipal bodies in their respective constituencies. During their high-decibel election campaign, the two leaders often targeted the ruling Congress, BRS and AIMIM, accusing them of entering into a secret pact to defeat the BJP. While Mr. Sanjay touched upon the local civic issues and assured the voters that they would find a permanent solution. Mr. Arvind focused his campaign on the slogan ‘Mana Indur – Mana Mayor’ to reach the people of Nizamabad.
The saffron party managed to win 21 out of 49 divisions in Adilabad municipality, relegating the ruling Congress Party and the main opposition BRS to second and third place. While the Congress won 11 divisions, the BRS secured six divisions.
Addressing jubilant BJP cadres in Karimnagar on Friday evening, Mr. Sanjay said that the people of Karimnagar have reaffirmed their faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda by giving their electoral mandate to the BJP.
“Inspired by this victory, we will try to win Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri municipal corporations in the upcoming elections,” he said.
