Food and Civil Supplies Minister KH Muniyappa said distribution of Indira kits will begin in March. The kits containing tur dal, oil, sugar and salt will reach 1.24 million cardholders, he said at a press conference in Hassan on Friday.

The Minister stated that the tender procedure for the distribution of kits has been announced. “The state government will distribute Indira Kits instead of five kilograms of rice provided under the Anna Bhagya scheme. This decision has been taken in view of the misuse of rice supplied to the beneficiaries,” Mr. Muniyappa said.

Further, the minister said that the government has started procurement of ragi (finger millet). “The demand for ragi in north India is increasing. Karnataka is the main grower of ragi in the country and ranks first in south India. The Center has facilitated the purchase of six million tonnes of ragi,” he said.

He asked the police officers to ensure that only quality ragi is procured.

Deputy Commissioner KS Latha Kumari, CEO Zilla Panchayat BR Poornima, Shubhanwita, SP and others were present.
