Proclamation proceedings conducted against accused in narco-terrorism case: J&K Police
The Special Branch of the J&K Police, the State Investigation Agency (SIA), on Saturday (June 27, 2026) conducted a summons against a local resident who is said to be “on the run and wanted in a cross-border narco-terrorism case”.
An SIA spokesperson said the statement was made at the residence of the accused, identified as Bilal Shabir Awan, a resident of Dildar in Kupwara, “in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses”.
The SIA said the case was initially registered at the Parimpora police station in Srinagar in January 2025 following the seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin during a cordon and search operation in Barthana, Srinagar.
“The case was handed over to SIA Kashmir, which uncovered a well-organised cross-border narco-terrorist network involved in narcotics trafficking to finance and facilitate terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir,” the SIA said.
In the case, the police referred to the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
“The SIA has since filed charges against the seven accused persons who are currently facing trial before the appropriate court, while further investigations into the wider conspiracy are ongoing,” it said.
