A 40-year-old woman was allegedly burnt to death by her daughter in Sattenapalli town of Palnadu district on February 8, prompting a police investigation. The incident came to light on Friday when a police investigation found some prima facie evidence. The police suspect the deceased’s daughter in the case.
The deceased was identified as Uravakonda Ramadevi, a resident of Christian Peta in Sattenapalli. Hailing from Malapadu village in Bollapalli mandal, Ramadevi had been living in a rented flat near her relative’s house for the past two months. She earned her living by selling clothes and sarees in nearby villages. Her husband Subbayya died by suicide nearly 20 years ago.
Ramadevi has two children. Her son went missing about ten years ago. Her daughter Lakshmi, married and settled in Vijayawada with two children, had reportedly arrived at her house a day before the incident.
The next day, neighbors noticed flames and thick smoke pouring from the house. They opened the side door and found the charred body of Ramadevi inside. While some locals suspect electrocution as a burnt wire was seen on the body, the police noted the presence of a plastic bottle and the smell of petrol inside the house. Footage collected from a CCTV camera installed near the house is being scrutinized, police said.
Sattenapalli Circle Inspector Narahari Nagamalleswara Rao said the investigation is on.
