February 13, 2026

The comprehensive modernization of the Government Dental College and Research Institute (GDCRI), a 50-year-old state dental health institute in Karnataka, was launched on 13 February.

The foundation stone was laid by Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil and Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar.

The ₹40 crore project, approved by the state cabinet, will elevate the facility with luxurious modern interiors, state-of-the-art clinical rooms and state-of-the-art equipment, while carefully preserving the iconic stone architecture on the front facade, the report said.

The existing badminton court will be converted into a three-storey clinical complex with several specialist clinics and a rooftop badminton court integrated with the health club. Selected outdated internal structures will be replaced with current clinical infrastructure to improve patient care and education, he added.

Dr. Patil said, “This upgrade is in line with our vision to combine GDCRI’s rich heritage with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure world-class dental care for all citizens of Karnataka.”

Dr. Sudhakar added, “By investing in such improvements, we are strengthening Bengaluru’s position as a center for medical excellence and skill development.”
