A major fire broke out in a forest area near Thannimood in Paloda on Thursday.
According to official sources, the fire reportedly started around 4:00 pm and quickly spread through parts of the forest. Members of the Fire and Rescue Service from the Palode Fire Station rushed to the scene and began intensive efforts to bring the fire under control. Later, other units from Vithura and Nedumangad also joined the firefighting operations to contain the flames.
The fire caused extensive damage and is said to have started in the Chekkonam forest area. Preliminary reports indicate that nearly 10 acres of forest land has been destroyed. Several trees including Anjili (Artocarpus hirsutus) were burnt in the incident.
While the fire was brought under control, strong winds in the area heightened fears that the flames could reignite and spread further. Under these circumstances, firefighters are closely monitoring the situation. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
