February 12, 2026

India captain Suryakumar Yadav has confirmed that Abhishek Sharma will not be available for selection for a “match or two”, ruling him out of India’s Group A match against Namibia in Delhi on Thursday, February 12. Abhishek, the world’s number one T20I batsman, is ruled out with a stomach-related illness.

“Abhishek is still not well. He will miss a game or two. I really don’t know,” Suryakumar said after losing the toss against Namibia.

Abhishek was hospitalized in Delhi due to what is reported to be a stomach bug. According to teammate Tilak Varma, who spoke to reporters on the eve of the match, the opening batsman was dropped on Wednesday. However, Abhishek did not take part in India’s training sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

As expected, Sanju Samson has stepped in for Abhishek and is set to open the batting alongside Ishan Kishan.

“It’s a huge opportunity for Sanju Samson. He might have to prepare for the Pakistan match,” Sunil Gavaskar said on live television after Suryakumar confirmed the change.
