HYDRAA will fence the Pragathi Nagar lake

February 12, 2026

The Hyderabad Disaster Management & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has stepped up efforts to restore the Pragathi Nagar Lake by curbing garbage dumping and initiating clean-up measures.

Following the recent removal of silt from the lake, HYDRAA has now erected fencing along a 1.5km stretch of road passing through the lake to prevent further dumping of rubbish. The move follows complaints by local residents that chicken, meat and fish vendors along with nearby traders were indiscriminately dumping animal waste and other waste along the stretch, leading to a strong stench in the area. On the instructions of HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath, officials removed nearly 145 truckloads of accumulated animal waste from the site. The traders responsible for dumping the waste were relocated to alternative sites and the area was cleared.

To prevent motorists and others from throwing garbage into the lake when crossing the road, HYDRAA installed fencing up to 10 meters high along the stretch. Further development work is planned to ensure that sewage does not enter the lake, HYDRAA said in a statement.
