HYDERABAD

Elections in seven municipal corporations and 116 municipalities across Telangana ended peacefully on Wednesday, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy said.

From the Command and Control Center at the Telangana Police Headquarters in Lakdikapul, the DGP along with Additional DGP (Law and Order) Mahesh M. Bhagwat monitored the polling process across the state through webcast. He said special attention was paid to sensitive and hypersensitive areas, while live feeds were reviewed and instructions were issued to field officers as needed.

Addressing a press conference at the election commission office, the DGP said the webcasting system enables real-time monitoring of polling booths and helps maintain law and order. Both the surveillance system and the deployment of police personnel were responsible for ensuring a peaceful process.

A total of 8,203 polling stations were covered across the state. Of these, 1,302 were identified as hypersensitive, 1,926 as sensitive, and 4,975 as general. Security forces were deployed based on categorization and local assessment. Around 3,000 additional personnel from the police and other departments including TGSP, Forestry, Excise, CID and Legal Metrology were mobilized to maintain order.

The DGP said that 100% webcasting arrangement was done inside the polling booths and outside the most sensitive centers to ensure transparency.

In several precincts, police officers also helped elderly voters and voters with various disabilities. In Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Wanaparthy and Peddapalli, senior officers were overseeing measures to help elderly voters reach the polling booths, including the use of wheelchairs. In Mulugu district, electoral service workers provided first aid to a voter who had fainted and arranged for him to be taken to hospital. In parts of Sangareddy district, elderly voters were taken to polling stations, while in Mahabubabad district, police officers looked after young children while their parents cast their votes.
